Lambay Challenge 2026

The conditions were near-perfect as the crews began arriving in Rush for our annual Lambay Challenge, boats on the beach, crews preparing, and the anticipation building for the challenge ahead.

From the early hours, crews and boats of all categories arrived ready to take on one of the toughest and most spectacular rowing challenges on the East Coast. East Coast Skiffs. St Ayles Skiffs. Currachs. FISA boats.

​

Different boats. Different crews. One brutal challenge.

​

From Rush South Beach, crews battled their way across the open water to Lambay Island before taking on the full circumnavigation, testing strength, endurance, teamwork and determination against the elements.

​

And what a day of racing it was.

​

A huge congratulations to St. Michael’s Rowing Club, Dun Laoghaire. Their men’s crew put in a phenomenal performance, storming around the course to take first skiff home and first boat overall. Their ladies’ crew followed with an outstanding second place overall and second female skiff home.

An incredible achievement from both crews, thoroughly deserved!

We couldn’t be prouder of our own crews.

Our men’s crew fought their way to an impressive second place in the men’s category and third skiff overall, putting everything on the line from start to finish.

​

And our Junior Ladies crew delivered an exceptional performance, claiming second place in the female skiff home and third place overall. A fantastic result and a huge achievement for our young crew.

​

From the first stroke to the final push for the shore, the determination and spirit on the water were something to be proud of.

​

This is what the Lambay Challenge is all about.

A massive well done to every crew who took on the challenge and gave it everything they had.

What a day. What a race. What a challenge.
