Dublin Canvas is an idea, a public art project intended to bring flashes of colour and creativity to everyday objects within County Dublin. Less grey, more play! The project takes previously unused public space and transforms it into canvases to help brighten up each area.

Fingal Rowing Club is delighted to announce our submission for Dublin Canvas 2026, a collaboration piece with local artist Alison O'Grady.
Artwork Title: Beautiful Balbriggan by the Sea.
Inspired by the rich maritime heritage of Balbriggan, this artwork depicts the iconic Martello tower and the historic Bathhouses at King‘s Strand. These buildings hold a significant place in the town’s history, having once served as the RNLI and the station for Balbriggan’s first lifeboat, the ‘Maid of Annan.
As these historic structures enter a new chapter, they are set to serve the local community once again as the future home of Fingal Rowing Club and the 89th Bremore Sea Scouts.
The artwork celebrates both Balbriggan’s seafaring past and the continued connection between the town, the sea, and the organisations that foster maritime skills and community spirit for future generations. Born from the spirit of Fingal, the rowing club’s emblem carries the raven of Clontarf, a symbol of resilience, wisdom, and transformation since the Irish victory over the Vikings in 1014.
Alongside it lies the seagull, guardian of the coast, representing freedom, community, and fearless navigation through changing tides. Together, they embody the strength, courage, and enduring spirit of Fingal Rowing Club.
Artist Bios:
Stephen is a professional photographer based in Skerries and is the PRO for Fingal RC. He is passionate about coastal rowing and maritime heritage. Alison is a visual artist and art educator from Balbriggan, Co. Dublin. Her practice spans drawing, illustration, post-primary education and community arts, with a particular interest in place, heritage and storytelling through visual art.
